| | In a match which featured many goals and plenty of drama, Sydney FC ran out 5-2 winners over Dave Mitchell’s Perth side.
Sydney FC made only one enforced change following their 3-2 win over the Mariners last week, with Mitchell Prentice replacing the suspended Stuart Musialik in midfield. For the visitors, David Tarka returned to the starting eleven in place of young Hayden Doyle.
The game began with a Sydney goal out of nowhere. Dino Djulbic, under some pressure on the right, prodded a gentle back-pass in the direction of Tarka. It was quickly intercepted by Alex Brosque, who surged on into the area, manoeuvred himself between Tarka and Jamie Coyne, and finished neatly with his right foot. | | Last time, it was a nine-goal thriller. This time, the crowd had to be content with five.
In another vividly dramatic Mariners-Sydney encounter at Bluetongue Stadium, Sydney FC snatched a 3-2 win in the 81st minute, as the Mariners again found a numerical advantage more of a hindrance than a help.
With returned Olympian Mark Bridge at the point of the attack and Alex Brosque – suspended last week – providing good support for Steve Corica just behind the forward-line, Sydney FC started brightly and scored a fine goal after only 6 minutes. Brosque outpaced a match-shy Nigel Boogaard on the Mariners’ left, and pulled the ball back across goal; Bridge could not make contact, but Steve Corica was there to finish coolly with his left foot. Two of the competition favourites played out a tight 0-0 draw in front of a rather disappointing crowd at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Sydney FC, without their three main strikers in John Aloisi (injured), Alex Brosque (suspended) and Mark Bridge (kept on the bench after his exertions in China), started with only 17-year-old Chris Payne up front. Melbourne were without another Olympian in Archie Thompson, and thus Ney Fabiano was handed a first A-League start, partnering Danny Allsopp in attack. |

 Mashup by Phormic (c) 2008 | Another week another top drawer signing for Sydney FC, this week unveiling Stuart “Disco Stu” Musialik, a 22 year old midfielder and the second Jet that’s been diverted to Sydney in as many weeks. Musialik was a standout in Newcastle’s championship winning team last season and according to John Kosmina he “..will add that little bit of cohesion between the back and the front.” A few eyebrows have been raised at Sydney signing another midfielder after picking up Colosimo last week, but no-one’s questioning his ability.  Photo by Simon Overall (c) 2008 | Aloisi, Bridge, Colosimo, it’s been an interesting week for Sydney FC, three high profile signings announced on Monday (3rd March), all of whom have much to recommend them, but also a few concerns for followers of the club’s fortunes. I want to take a look at each player, what they’ll bring, and how that balances out against the issues and concerns that have been raised about each of them. John Aloisi, Mark Bridge and Simon Colossimo were unveiled at a press conference at SFS where Chairman Andrew Kemeney made it clear that this was the beginning of a rebuilding process, not the end.
