The Tribe Called Quest record was my favourite of last year.

In fact probably my favourite album in a while...

The first half is great, the second not so much.

Ooh. Not sure I can agree with that. First half is absolute fire, but the rest is still excellent, imo.

Mobius, Black Spasmodic, Killing season, Movin Backwards... Then Ego on the other side...

Better than the best tracks on most records.

Really good. I'm a little disappointed that the crazed fan theories about a second album didn't turn out to be true.

I think Anthony Fantano's review is worth watching.

Only aware of the first two singles via youtube, need to get it onto my phone and listen.

It has some pretty rough tracks and some other problems, but its got enough strong tracks (YAH, FEEL, ELEMENT, FEAR, PRIDE esp) to be good overall.

I'm not awfully enthusiastic about this. 8 tracks down and nothing has really blown me away.

Don't get me wrong, it's decent. But this is not as good as his previous two albums.

Haha no doubt.

Weirdly I felt the exact same way about Pimp A Butterfly. Did not land with me at all.

Yeah, it was one that sprang to mind when deadpool was bemoaning the state of hip-hop.

Last year had some beauties - Kool Keith, De La, Tribe Called Quest, Kanye (not exactly up and comers though)

A liked Travis Scotts album, although I'm not really into trap usually... Childish Gambino had some good tracks on his album. I think I enjoyed Kendricks mix-tape.

I kind of bounced off of Chance's album.

But still I'm not sure we can really dunk on the state of the game right this minute... Although it is fun.

I swear to god i feel like I'm in the emperors new clothes.

everyone loves ye so much no one is gonna say what an absolute dumpster fire of crap this album was.

over hyped, overproduced, lyrically kanye seems to have regressed to lil yachty levels (e.g. bleached asshole lines).

[/old man rant]

chceked out joey bada$$ based on above recommendation, got through the first 9 or so songs. very enjoyable, reckon it woulda gone hard here if released dec - jan due its cruisy summer vibes feel

Lol I didn't say it was perfect. But there are some good tracks in that dumpster fire!

At least there was, last time I checked. He may have changed the track list since then ;)

But I was talking more about the genre overall, not just that album.
