And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this measuring of truth

Yeah, we really need a City loss otherwise the prospect of a Melbourne Derby Grand Final might be too tantalising for the FFA to resist.

Melbourne should get a very soft opponent next week, after the 120 mins, emotionally draining shootout, loss of #1 keeper, and away Champions League fixture. Even with their current dog's turd form they should be able to see that through.

Furthermore, can they "revoke" a penalty? IE- defender gets the ball, not a pen. Is it just a goal kick?

Drop ball

Jumpei was never going to score. Never been so confident of someone missing a penalty.
agreed. Knew he'd fucking try to dink it or some shit. If Vedra had Sucked it up he'd have silverware this season, not any more.
Was mentioned in the commentary that he was thinking of giving the game away until the Wanderers rescued his career... After HALF a season at #2? A budgie heart of epic proportions, if I may make that contradiction.

Lol, yep. I reiterate everything I said about him when he left.

He might want to consider how the league's two leading goalkeepers historically in Theo and Galekovic have gone through longer spells as #2s (Galekovic behind Theo way back in the day at MV, Theo in the two seasons before this one) and come out of it alright without chucking the toys...sorry, experiencing personal issues that required a mid-season transfer.

Great start to the finals, great result.

Western Suburbs to now do their annual clear out of their entire squad and start from scratch next season.

Placing zero blame on poppa in the process. Good first few years but this season the bloke couldn't win a meat raffle. Long may the clean out trend continue.

They're nothing without Martinez and Antonis.

So they're gone.

Well I guess Fox won't get their wish of Wanderers beating Sydney FC in the finals. Sucked in.
They're going to fuck him to death, bury him, then dig him up and fuck him again.

What a match! I was on the edge of my seat throughout. We were pretty woeful in the first half but came home strong. Our possession stats must've been shit because we pretty much gave it away at every opportunity.

Theo was immense and Jamie Young's game will be remembered for a hell of a lot of time because of his pen save plus those saves with practically the first touch of his introduction.

I have no idea how we're gonna back up for the ACL and then the Victory next Sunday. The players were absolutely spent.
A Champion is one who gets up when he can't.

Dunno about that, there have been rumblings about Poppa from their fans all season. Despite his limitations / predictability and this seasons abysmal recruitment, I still say no one else in world football does what he has for them... takes them from non-existence to a premiership, ACL, and 3 GF's in 4 years. Literally the only thing left to do was win the last game of the season.

If that's not enough to please people in a salary capped league then I don't know what is. Giving him the arse would be so stupid, but so many of them are actually dumb enough to want it. Very much a "careful what you wish for" type thing, would love for them to do it and then all be looking back wistfully after Merrick takes them to a 7th straight season without finals in front of 6,000 in that cavernous new stadium.

He still does a fairly good job at getting the most out of what he does put on the field, even if the general possession emphasis has been somewhat misguided, and Nichols predictably had the same second season syndrome Bridge had. The big problem continues to be his recruitment and a general dropping of standards there from where he had WSW early on. Even last season I thought it was a fairly meh squad (albeit better than this one) and 2nd place/getting to the GF owed much to what he got out of it and how much the contenders below Adelaide dropped the ball (not least Brisbane giving up a 3-0 lead in the semi-final...). In general there has been a considerable drop off in quality in the squads after their first two seasons, when outside of Dino up front in the first season I thought they were decent-to-very good from back to front.

On the topic of strikers, I eagerly await what Popovic next comes up with for one. And if it's another dud, how much of the season he'll waste before realising it might be wise to start his one decent striker in Santalab more regularly than every third game in a league largely without midweek fixtures. Last season it took until the last few games (giving up 1st to a very slow starting Adelaide in the process) and this season it was amusing that he didn't come around to it until the ACL kicked in and it did become impractical to regularly start a 34 yo.

Just saw there have been 20 goals in the three meetings between Perth and City this season.

Nailed on for an overdue 0-0 and penalties.

Hoping for a Topsy turvy emotional rollercoaster of a game with drama aplenty for fan and neutral alike. 5-5 AET then an emotionally harrowing 20 kick penalty shootout. Prefer Perth obviously.

I'd love for a solid 3 nil win for Perth.
With city never getting into the game. Cahill fornaroli etc just being passengers.

Sick of hearing about their crap.
