There's no stopping the VAR train now.

K League have decided to introduce video assistant referee (VAR) in June, a month ahead of schedule.

Would be fantastic if they choked at home next week and our Joden brethren snuck home. #yidsallovertheworld

The ruler of Dubai believes there are too many clubs in the city of Dubai and has ordered 3 clubs to merge immediately, including Al-Ahli who are still playing in the ACL 2017.

They officially no longer exist as an individual club as soon as their last ball is kicked for this season.

https://ahdaaf.me/2017/05/16/dubai-ruler-orders-merger-of-three-top-division-clubs/?cbg_tz=-600

Too many derbies

One of the clubs forced into the merger had a crowd of 72 at their last home game.

Elsewhere in the UAE, the ruler of Sharjah is forcing clubs to merge as well.

Interesting move. There is definitely more interest in Abu Dhabi due to the higher number of locals who make up the population and attend as well as only having 2 City teams and 2 outskirts teams. While they all continue to play in rubbish stadiums with minimal facilities and food/drink and at inconvenient kick off times the league will continue to hemorrhage Money. They also need to start trying to encourage expats to attend. The eurosnob factor here is massive, especially when locals can just fly to Manchester, Madrid and Barcelona on the weekend and watch them play live.

Diving bans: Football Association expected to approve retrospective action

Quote
Players who dive in English football could face bans from next season.

The Football Association will vote on retrospective action at its annual general meeting on Thursday and is expected to approve the proposal.

The governing body would need the backing of the Premier League, the English Football League and the Professional Footballers' Association to introduce the rule change.

But it is understood they are broadly supportive and already in agreement.

Under the proposed new rules, a panel would review footage from the weekend each Monday looking for cases of simulation. Any player unanimously found guilty of diving would be given a suspension.

Speaking in December, Burnley manager Sean Dyche said he thought diving would be eradicated from football "in six months" if retrospective bans were introduced.

Fornaroli and Berisha would be out for half the season.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto wants to be a porn star

Can't decide what I love more, that revelation or 'Arry wanting to sign him for Birmingham and his reaction to it:

Quote
A jovial Redknapp told the Spurs Show podcast: “I got a phone call, ‘Mr Redknapp I have a fantastic player for you, one of your old players, Benoit’. “I’m thinking, ‘yeah’, somewhere inside you think ‘I can get him going again’. The only trouble is that he’s admitted he wants to be a porn star.

“Maybe I can get another year out of him before he decides to do that. What a good player. He could well end up in the Birmingham colours next year, Benoit.” Assou-Ekotto made 205 appearances for Spurs, leaving to join St Etienne in 2015, and also played for Redknapp at QPR during the 2013/14 season.

South China AA, the most successful team in Hong Kong Premier League (41 times league champion) finished 4th this season but have been voluntarily relegated to down to the 1st Division League next year over lack of sponsorship and other financial issues.

Very sharp for the most part but just a little bit poncey.

I do like Umbro kits. I picked up a Deportivo Cali jersey a few months ago just because I thought it looked great (very similar to this image) - I literally know nothing about the club.

Umbro do good stuff, I picked up last season's Rovers away kit because it looked really classy.

Would be a great away kit for us with some tone adjustments.

Adam Hurrey's Top Ten Types of Generic Football Image
Quote
5) Inexplicable situations

No risks being taken by the defending team here, with their seven-man wall - except for the apparent lack of a goalkeeper behind them. Some sort of nuclear tower looms on the horizon, which might explain why the right-footed version of Roberto Carlos here has completely missed the ball. Sustainable technology might be Abengoa’s thing, but free-kick specialists they are not. The true nadir of Manchester United’s post-Ferguson era.

Rangers have signed 9 new players this off season and spent a bit of money considering they are skint.

And they got knocked out of Europa League by a club from Luxembourg. Just found the club came 4th in the Luxembourg top flight
